Ophiocordyceps Stained Glass Mini Sun Catcher

This piece is for the true mycophiles out there! Ophiocordyceps is most commonly known as the mushrooms that turn ants into zombies.

The mycelium of the mushroom colonizes the ant and uses the body as a vessel. It makes the ant climb to the top of a blade of grass where the mushroom can form and subsequently spread its spores. It can do this to other bug species such as cicadas and wasps.

The concept of Ophiocordyceps is also what inspired the game and TV show “The Last of Us”. If you’ve never heard of this mushroom species I highly recommend taking a deep dive- it’s a truly fascinating organism.

This is a mini sun catcher – the glass art is 3.5 x 4.75 inches. With the metal chain it hangs down a total of 8 inches. Suction cup will be included so it can be hung in your favorite window.
