Culture Cave is a discovery front door and hosting platform for independent mycology vendors. Every order ships from the vendor you bought from, so shipping, tracking, and returns are set and handled by that vendor. Here is how it all works, and how we help if something goes sideways.
Culture Cave is a marketplace, not a warehouse. We never hold stock, and we never touch the money. Each independent vendor runs their own storefront, keeps 100% of every sale, takes payment through their own processor, and packs and ships their own orders.
That means the shipping details for your order live with the vendor you bought from, not with us. Shipping methods, carriers, costs, delivery estimates, and packaging are all set by that vendor. Two orders from two different vendors can arrive on totally different timelines, even if you placed them the same day.
Most vendors ship worldwide, but each one decides where they will and won't send. The regions a vendor serves, and the rates they charge, are shown on their own storefront at checkout. If you are ever unsure where something ships or how much postage will run, the vendor's storefront is the source of truth.
Processing time (also called handling time) is how long a vendor takes to prepare and dispatch your order before it ever enters the postal system. This varies a lot by vendor and by product. Living products like cultures and genetics are often made to order or timed around weather and lab schedules, so they can take longer to leave than a shelf-stable item like a print or lab supply.
Your vendor lists their typical processing and delivery windows on their storefront and in your order confirmation. Treat those windows as estimates, not guarantees. Cave time moves at the pace of the culture, and living things don't always keep to a calendar.
When your order ships, the vendor generates the tracking and sends it to you directly, usually by email or through their storefront. If you have not received tracking within the vendor's stated processing window, reach out to that vendor first through their storefront. They can see their own dispatch and label data; we cannot.
Culture Cave is based in Colorado, USA, and our vendors ship worldwide. If your order crosses a border, it may pass through customs and may be subject to import duties, taxes, or fees charged by your own country. Those charges are set by your government, not by the vendor or by Culture Cave, and they are the buyer's responsibility. They are separate from the postage you pay at checkout.
International shipments can also move more slowly and less predictably than domestic ones, especially while clearing customs. Build in extra patience for cross-border orders.
You are responsible for knowing and following the laws of your own country, state, or region before you order. All spores on the marketplace are sold strictly for microscopy, taxonomy, and legal gourmet cultivation use only. Some genetics and species are restricted in certain places, and it is on you, the buyer, to confirm what is permitted where you live before purchasing. Buyers must be 18 or older.
Not everything can ship everywhere. Certain products cannot be sent to certain destinations, either because a vendor chooses not to ship there or because local rules restrict that item in that region. A vendor may serve most of the world for one product and none of it for another.
The clearest way to know whether something can reach you is the vendor's own storefront and checkout. If a destination is blocked for a product, you will usually see it there, either as an unavailable shipping option or a note on the listing.
If an order does get placed to a destination where an item can't legally or practically ship, the vendor may need to cancel and refund that item under their own policy. When in doubt about a specific product reaching a specific place, ask the vendor before you buy.
First step, always: contact the vendor you bought from, through their storefront. Because the vendor packed, labeled, and shipped the order, they are the ones who can check dispatch records, open a carrier claim, reship, or sort out a refund. Culture Cave has no access to a vendor's postage accounts or carrier data, so going to the vendor first is genuinely the fastest way to a fix.
A few pointers that make these situations resolve faster:
Give it a little time if the order is only just past its estimate, especially internationally, since tracking can stall in transit and then update in a jump. But don't sit on a clearly damaged or long-lost package. Reach out promptly so the vendor can act while claims are still possible.
Returns and refunds run on each vendor's own policy, and those policies differ. Some vendors accept returns on unopened, shelf-stable goods within a set window. Others don't. Live cultures, genetics, and other perishables are frequently final sale, because once a living product leaves the vendor's controlled environment its viability can't be guaranteed. Always read the vendor's return and refund policy on their storefront before you buy, and reach out to that vendor first for any return or refund request.
We know handing you off to the vendor only works if the vendor actually answers. Most do, and quickly. But if you have made a genuine, good-faith effort to reach a vendor through their storefront and they have gone quiet, Culture Cave will help. Email us at info@culturecave.store with your order number, the vendor's name, and a short account of what happened and when you tried to reach them.
To be clear about what we can and can't do: because vendors take their own payments through their own processors, Culture Cave never holds your money and cannot directly issue a refund on a vendor's behalf. What we can do is act as your advocate. We will chase the vendor, help mediate a resolution, and take the vendor's responsiveness into account for their standing on the platform. Protecting buyers is how we keep this a place worth exploring, and we take an unresponsive vendor seriously.
