Thai Spores: Syringes, Prints & Isolates

Thai is a Psilocybe cubensis name covering several collections from Thailand, most of them traced to Koh Samui and the village of Ban Hua Thanon, where the species grows on dung in the wet season. Many of these collections are attributed to John Allen's fieldwork in the 1990s. Koh Samui, Ban Hua Thanon and Thai are sold as separate strains by some vendors and as one by others.

As cubensis, all of them share the purple-brown print and subellipsoid spores of around 11 to 17 by 7 to 10 micrometres. Material is sold as multispore syringes and prints; the label should name the specific collection where the vendor knows it, and give the generation.

Buying Thai spores for microscopy

Every Thai listing above comes from an independent vendor who prepared it, and the vendor's country, shipping regions and real customer reviews are on their store page. Labels tell you what you are getting: a multispore syringe carries many genetic individuals, an isolate (ISO) is a single worked line, and prints and swabs are the dry, long-life formats. Isolated vs multispore syringes explains the difference, how to store spore syringes covers shelf life, and how to use a spore syringe for microscopy walks through the slide. Buying in the UK? Read are mushroom spores legal in the UK. In the United States, see the state by state guide.
